About Pneumatic Actuated Valve:

It is a type of valve that uses compressed air or gas to control its opening and closing mechanism,  operating using compressed air or gas to drive the valve’s actuator, which in turn controls the valve’s position. When air pressure is applied, the actuator moves to open or close the valve, allowing for precise control over fluid flow. They typically consist of a valve body, actuator, and control system. The actuator is powered by compressed air or gas and is responsible for moving the valve mechanism to open or close the flow path, and is commonly used in industries such as manufacturing, chemical processing, and water treatment. They are ideal for applications where rapid operation, precise control, and reliability are required.

Working of a Pneumatic Actuated Valve :
The working principle of a pneumatic actuated valve involves the use of compressed air or gas to control the valve’s opening and closing mechanism. Here’s how it operates:

  • Actuator Activation: When a signal is sent to the pneumatic actuator, compressed air or gas is directed into the actuator chamber, creating pressure inside.
  • Actuator Movement: The pressure buildup inside the actuator causes the actuator’s piston or diaphragm to move. This movement is transferred to the valve mechanism through a series of linkages or connections.
  • Valve Operation: As the actuator moves, it either opens or closes the valve, depending on the design and application requirements. For example, in a ball valve, the actuator rotates the ball to either block or allow fluid flow. In a butterfly valve, the actuator rotates the disc to control flow.
  • Controlled Flow: With the valve in the desired position, fluid flow is either allowed or blocked based on the actuator’s movement. This allows for precise control over the flow rate and direction of the fluid within the system.
  • Signal Feedback: Thay have feedback mechanisms such as position sensors that may be employed to provide information on the valve’s position to the control system. This feedback ensures accurate control and monitoring of the valve’s operation.
  • Release of Pressure: Once the desired valve position is reached, the control signal to the actuator is adjusted or stopped, and the pressure inside the actuator chamber is released. This allows the valve to maintain its position until the next signal is received.

Types:

  • Pneumatic Actuated Ball Valve: Utilizes compressed air or gas to control the opening and closing of a ball valve mechanism for fluid flow regulation.
  • Pneumatic Actuated Gate Valve: Employs compressed air or gas to drive the gate mechanism, allowing for precise control over fluid flow in pipelines.
  • Pneumatic Actuated Butterfly Valve: Operates using compressed air or gas to actuate the disc, enabling accurate modulation of fluid flow in piping systems.
  • Pneumatic Actuated Knife Gate Valve: Utilizes compressed air or gas to control the positioning of a knife-like gate, providing reliable shut-off in applications with high-solids content.
